William Verdonik

June 1, 1947 — November 19, 2017

William "Bill" Verdonik, age 70, of Oneida (formerly of Brooklyn, NY), passed away Sunday, November 19, 2017, after many years of bravely struggling with illness, surrounded by his loving family. He was born June 1, 1947 in Brooklyn, NY, son of the late John and Florence (Hawkins) Verdonik.

Bill proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He married Carolyn Kilfoyle, May 2, 1981 in New Jersey. They shared 35 loving years together raising their daughter, Maureen.

Bill and his family relocated to Green Bay in 1983 from Brooklyn, NY. He worked for many years as a sales manager, retiring from Megtec Systems. After retirement, Bill enjoyed working as an Independent Consultant through BV Investments. Bill cherished his time working with the YMCA as a new member tour guide.

Bill had many titles, but his favorite was "Papa." He adored his 4 grandchildren, but was known as "Papa" to many others who knew him. Many Christmas Eves were spent with Papa reading "T'was the Night Before Christmas" with children sitting at his feet-friends and family alike. He loved telling stories to his grandkids and was their go-to person for any information, especially history. Many of his stories led to field trips to visit the historical places he talked about. One of his favorite things to do was taking the grandkids to the State Fair.

Bill is survived by his wife, Carolyn; daughter, Maureen (Bryan) Bryfczynski; 4 grandchildren: Megan, John, Katelyn and Abigail; 3 brothers: John (Claire) Verdonik, Thomas Verdonik and Greg (Christy) Verdonik and brother-in-law, John (Kim) Kilfoyle. He is further survived by his extended Bryfczynski family, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph Verdonik; sister, Patricia (Robert) Rusch; father and mother-in-law, John and Nora Kilfoyle and sister-in-law, Maureen Kilfoyle.

Visitation will be held at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Saturday, November 25, 2017 from 2 to 4 PM. A celebration of Bill's life will follow at 4 PM with full military honors. Bill will be laid to rest at King Veteran Cemetery and will have a private family memorial at one of his favorite places on Rost Lake.

Bill was the recipient of a donor heart and was a terrific advocate for organ donation. A great way to honor his memory would be to become an organ donor. He was also a proud veteran and cared about the lives of his fellow veterans. In lieu of flowers, memorials directed to CoverMeVeterans.org in Bill's name are appreciated.
