William J. (Bill) McGovern, 83, passed away on February 21st, 2014, at a local hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on October 12, 1930, in Oconto to the late John & Mary McGovern. Bill graduated from Oconto High School in 1948. He married the love of his life, Virginia King at St. Lukes Church in Two Rivers on February 3rd, 1951, together they celebrated 63 years of marriage.
He was a life-long resident of Two Rivers and recently moved to Green Bay in 2012. Bill enjoyed going to the family cottage at Riley's Point in Door County for over 30 years. Bill relished in his roots, and took every opportunity possible to go back and visit his hometown of Oconto. He was a hunter, fisherman, and an avid Packers and Brewers fan. Bill was employed at Hamilton Manufacturing in Two Rivers for over 40 years; he was a very skilled, accomplished and respected Stainless Steel fabricator and model shop designer.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia; 4 children, Ron (friend, Nancy) McGovern, Green Bay; Bonnie (Paul) Liberty, Burlington, VT; Sandy (Roger) Kimmes, Two Rivers; and Thom (Barb) McGovern, Green Bay. Bill is further survived by his 8 grandchildren, Christopher McGovern, Marc (Amanda) McGovern, Heather Liberty, Ryan Liberty, Kevin (Abby) Kimmes, Joseph (Christine) Kimmes, Matt (Amanda) McGovern, and Megan (Josh) Brzezinski; 4 great-grandchildren, Isiah and Colby Liberty, Isabella McGovern, and his little buddy Finn Brzezinski; sister, Mary Kleba; and nieces, Patsy (Gene) Fifarek and Maureen McCorkindale.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; his in laws, Raymond and Edna King; his 5 brothers, John, Jim, Francis, Pat, and Bob; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and many, many great friends.
Per Bill's wishes his family will gather privately to celebrate his life and passing with a memorial dinner.
