Wayne Jay Armstrong passed away peacefully on January 27, 2025 with his family at his side at the Jack and Engrid Meng Unity Hospice facility. He was born on August 10, 1934 to Harold and Gertrude Armstrong. He was the youngest of 8 children, having 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Wayne grew up in Harmony Corners on a family farm. After graduating from Peshtigo High School, he attended Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin where along with his academics he played football for the Fighting Saints.
He was called to serve his country and joined the United States Marines Corp, from 1956-58. After his service, he met the love of his life, Nadine Martin in Marinette, Wisconsin. They soon married and were off to start their life together in Minneapolis, Minnesota. They soon were blessed with three children: Jay, Joy and Jon.
Looking to get closer to family they moved to Green Bay and he began his career at WPS. He worked in various positions for 34 years until retirement.
Wayne and Nadine's relationship was rooted in the Catholic faith while raising their family, attending St. Jude. Later, they became members of St. Matthews Parish. They also enjoyed traveling, camping and spending time at their cottage where they created many memories with their family.
In his free time, Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family, wood working, volunteering and being active in many social groups. Wayne had a very active social circle enjoying neighbors, work employees and he made friends wherever he went.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine, 3 children and 6 grandchildren. Son, Jay (Michele) Armstrong and their children: Nicholas (Maren) and Bridget; Daughter, Joy (Gregg) Pokel and their children: Matthew and Alyssa; Son, Jon (Shari) Armstrong and their daughters: Meghan and Rachael; one special great grandson, Bennett Armstrong; two sister in laws: Muriel Armstrong and Nancy Walk, and many special nieces and nephews.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, along with his 7 siblings: Theron, Lucille, Harold Jr., Phillip, Francis, Virginia, and Joyce, and his in laws, Lawrence and Gertrude Martin.
Visitation will take place on Monday, February 3, 2025 at St. Matthews Catholic Church (130 St Matthews St, Green Bay, WI 54301) from 9:00 am - 11:00 am. Mass of Christian Burial will take place immediately following at 11:00 am. Private Entombment will take place at Allouez Catholic Cemetery & Mausoleum.
