Walter W. Seeger

Walter W. Seeger, 89, Green Bay, went to meet his Savior on Wednesday, August 27, 2014, and was welcomed into Heaven.

He was born on November 15, 1924, in Milwaukee, to the late Walter & Hedwig Seeger. He graduated from Winnebago Lutheran Academy High School in Fond du Lac in 1943.

Walter served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European theater. He reached the rank of Corporal serving in the 90th infantry division. Walt participated in several major campaigns including the Battle of the Bulge, and the liberation of the Flossenberg concentration camp. He was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge and several other decorations and awards.

He married Victoria Salamone on July 14, 1951, in Milwaukee. Walt and Vicky recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in the presence of his family.

Walter was employed as a mechanic by the Pabst Brewery in Milwaukee for many years before becoming a business agent for District 10 of the International Association of Machinists (IAMAW). He was a strong and effective advocate for hard-working men and women in the greater Milwaukee area up to and well beyond his retirement from District 10 in 1986.

Walt enjoyed hunting, fishing, the Packers and the Brewers, but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. A kind man of quick wit and generous heart, he was always guided by his strong faith in God. He was a respected and beloved member and leader of three WELS congregations, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin Rapids, and Green Bay. Walt enjoyed singing hymns with his booming melodious voice, and was quite discriminating in his choices of hymns, preferring the traditional songs learned in his youth. If he didn't like any of the, "modern" hymns, he simply didn't sing along.

As a well-informed and conscientious citizen, Walt served on a number of municipal boards and councils after his retirement. He never missed voting, even when doing so became physically taxing. Walt's expressions of political beliefs and his history of charitable actions reflected a Christ-centered philosophy of tending to the needs of those less fortunate and disadvantaged.
Walter's family, and those so fortunate to have known him will always remember him for his humor and his well-worn one liners. His children and grandchildren will be repeating and passing on many of those expressions of goodwill, delight, and laughter forever.

Survivors include his wife, Victoria; children, Barbara (Edward) Dorff, Jim (Judy) Seeger and Daniel (Kris) Seeger; grandchildren, Nathaniel "Ned" (Lindsay) Dorff, Cassandra Dorff, Jennifer (Andrew) Vanover, Kristi (Abe) Goepfert, Jason Seeger, Amy Seeger, Stacey Seeger, Daniel (Valerie) Seeger, Michael Seeger, and Lucas Dahl; and nine great grandchildren, Jonah, Silas, Eli, Hazel, Reuben, Liam, Odin, Weston, Reed and Delano; and his beloved dog, Winston.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Jean Baudo; and brother, Richard Seeger.

Visitation will be held from 9:00am until the time of Memorial Service at 11:00am on Saturday, September 6, 2014, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 743 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, with Pastor Paul Schleis officiating. Military honors to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be offered to the First Evangelical Lutheran Music Ministry or the Bay Area Humane Society.
