Violet "Vi" Van Rens, age 83, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully, Saturday, July 9, 2016 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born April 20, 1933 in Green Bay, daughter of the late John and Elsie (Barke) Kaufman and attended Green Bay East High School.
Vi married Melvin "Mel" Van Rens March 31, 1951 and together they shared many years of marriage and raised 6 children. She retired from Procter & Gamble in 1995 after 20 years of service. Her children remember her as a spirited, fun-loving woman who was young at heart. She loved to lounge in the pool, rollerblade, dance, draw, paint and especially loved her pets. Time spent with her family was most precious to Vi. Vi's enthusiasm for life, her stories and her laughter will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Vi is survived by 5 children: Christine (Gary) Krouth, David (Susan) Van Rens, TX, Cheryl (Thane) Johnson, TN, Lori Van Rens and Doug (Shelly) Van Rens; daughter-in-law, Marlene Van Rens, TX; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and sister, Lydia (the late Steve) Ferron.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mel; son, Ken; brother, Bill (Mary Jane) Bostedt; sisters, Beatha (John "Al") Dimmer and Marcine (Gordon "Slim") Lade and special canine companion, Oliver Twist "Ollie."
Visitation will be held at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Thursday, July 14, 2016 from 5 to 6:45 PM. A funeral service will follow at 7 PM.
Vi's family would like to extend a special thank you to Unity Hospice and the staff at St. Vincent Hospital for their support, compassion and care of Vi and her family during her final days.
