Vernon "Cully" Heuvelmans

August 21, 1923 — August 9, 2013

Vernon Peter (Cully) Heuvelmans passed away August 9, 2013, just before his 90th birthday.

Cully was born on August 21, 1923, in De Pere to the late Peter and Martha (Fuller) Heuvelmans. With the exception of time served during World War II, Cully lived and worked in De Pere all of his life. He married Alice "Allie" Bernetzke in 1948. They had five children who all reside in De Pere. They are: Vicki (Albert) Manders, Theresa Monfort, Linda (Robert) Cox, Joyce (Dan) Diestler, and Robert (Vicki) Heuvelmans. He loved his 10 grandchildren and 12+ great-grandchildren and wished he could have had more time to watch them grow.

Early in his life, Cully had a knack for taking things apart and putting them back together. His children and grandchildren thought Grandpa Cully could fix anything, and he usually did. Cully graduated from Nicolet High School. He worked as a mechanic before joining the United States Coast Guard during World War II. He spent most of his work career at Nicolet Paper Company. He was one of their top electricians. He loved music and would play guitar and harmonica. He instilled a love of music in his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his brother, Richard (Virginia) Heuvelmans; sister, Shirley Guerts; sisters-in-law: Betty Heuvelmans, Frieda Paape, Barbara Paape and Lois Flur (Obe); brother-in-law, Bill Bernetzke; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and their spouses, Lorraine (Sylvester) Doro and Arlene (Kenneth) Cormier; his brother, Roland Heuvelmans; brothers-in-law, Robert Paape and Floyd Paape; sister-in-law, Jan Bernetzke; one niece; and four nephews.

Cully's family would like to extend a special thank you to Frieda, Debbie, Becky, and Annette Paape for always being there for all of us. And to family friend, Helen (Kussow) VanNoie who always remembered Allie and Cully when she did any baking. We also extend heartfelt thanks to Cully's Hospice Social Worker, Chris, his nurse, Laura, and Pastor Cindy Warmblier-Meyer, from Calvary Lutheran Church. Cully was able to spend his last days with his brother Richard (Hofty) as his roommate at Rennes Health Center. A special thanks also goes out to the caring staff at Rennes for their support.

There will be no visitation and no service per Cully's request.
