Urban J. Schumacher, 81, Green Bay, was called home to the Lord Saturday, August 25, 2012, surrounded by his loving family. He was born November 23, 1930, to the late Urban and Clara Schumacher. Urban was a 1948 graduate of Catholic Central High school and then went on to graduate from St. John's, Collegeville, Minnesota. He also attended Mount Calvary Seminary. Having served in Korea, after beginning his military career at the Presidio, Urb was a proud veteran who gave his rifle number whenever asked. On July 23, 1956, he married Julia Conley the love of his life for the past 56 years.
Urb went on to graduate from The Wisconsin School of Mortuary Science. He spent 54 years as a funeral director at Schauer & Schumacher Funeral Home counseling thousands of people through their own time of grief. Many people said that he was the kindest and most compassionate man they have ever met. Urb was especially proud to represent the Newcomer Family Funeral Home. The Newcomer family has named their Green Bay location the "Urban J. Schumacher Chapel," in his honor.
He loved all sports as well as the great outdoors, especially the northwoods, Siesta Key, and the Tucson desert. Berry picking, fishing trips to Canada with his sons and brothers, campfires, trips to the "land", and continual humor were among the fondest memories. Urb had a dry wit and a twinkle in his eye and loved making people laugh. He had a love for music and was a barbershopper for many years.
