Travis James Stangel, 57, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on April 8, 2025. He was born in Washington on January 17, 1968 to James and Janet (Biersteker) Stangel. On July 22, 2000, he married Jill Rueckert in Gillett. Travis was the proud owner of Stangel Construction since 1993. He took great pride in his work, he did outstanding work for his clients and his family, always meticulous with every project he finished.
Travis enjoyed his time up north at the cottage with his uncle Roger, who became like a father figure after his father passed; playing bean bags, playing poker, and he was a great bowler. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved hunting season; venturing out in the early mornings to his condo in the sky. Jill and Travis went on many family trips. In summer, he had a zeal for boating; catching speed on his motorcycle, with his son, Cody; motocross, or car jumps. On the weekends, his family would patiently wait for his famous omelets. Travis had an epic sense of humor, dad jokes galore and changing the lyrics of songs to make people laugh. He was an avid Packer and Brewer fan, tailgating when at the games, but it was always a great time when his family and friends would be with him to watch the games. He treasured the time that he spent with his family, friends, and his beloved dog, Ranger.
Travis is survived by his loving wife, Jill, six children: Danielle (Trevor Kurowski) Stangel, Michael Stangel, Taryn (Tim) LaCrosse, Cody Stangel, Casey Stangel, and Kylee Stangel; 11 grandchildren: Taylan (Austin), Teagan (Ethan), Trinity, Levi, Cat, Hunter, Dawson, Mila, Kenna, Rylee, and Danica; and one great-grandson on the way, mother, Janet Stangel, two sisters: Kandi (Jeff) Fischer and Renee (Robert) Ohrmundt; one sister-in-law, Tricia (Jay) Zima, parents-in-law, Charles and Diana Rueckert; two nieces, Nikki and Kayla, and two nephews, Adam and Bryson. He is further survived by many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, James Stangel, and one granddaughter, Jolene, and his best friend, Brad Nernberger; and many fur babies.
