Thomas Louis Salzman Jr., age 62, of Oneida, passed away unexpectedly at his home, Sunday, November 5, 2023. He was born April 23, 1961 in Milwaukee, WI, son of the late Thomas Louis Salzman Sr. and Jane (John) Salzman.
Thomas was a graduate of South Division High School, Milwaukee, WI. He married Carletta Waupoose in 1986. She preceded him in death in 1993. He was very proud of the service he provided to the Oneida Nation as a custodian at their daycare facility.
Thomas enjoyed watching and coaching sports. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was always present at their sporting events and activities, whether as a coach or a spectator. He was known as "Pops" to his kids' and grandkids' friends.
Thomas was preceded in death by his wife, Carletta (Waupoose) Salzman; his son, Kamewan Salzman; his father, Thomas Salzman Sr. and a great-nephew, Pascual Hernandez Jr.
He is survived by his sons, Thomas Louis (Heather) Salzman III, Benno Salzman; 6 grandchildren: Xavier Salzman, Gregory Salzman, Kamewan Salzman, Eliia White-Salzman, Benno Salzman and Thomas Salzman IV; his mother, Jane Salzman and his sister, Louette Fay Salzman. He is further survived by a niece, Savannah (Pascual) Hernandez; a nephew, Vincent Chambers; 4 honorary grandchildren: Lacyia, Isaiah, Nyasia and Emani Hill, other relatives and many friends.
Family and friends may gather at the Oneida Longhouse (W370 Reformatory Rd., Oneida, WI), Thursday, November 9, 2023 beginning at 5:30 PM. There will be a visitation at the Longhouse, Friday, November 10, 2023 from 9 to 10 AM. A funeral ceremony will follow at 10 AM, led by Leander Danforth. Burial will be in Oneida Sacred Burial Grounds.
