Theodore Charles Nielsen, age 75, of Oconto Falls, passed away on April 15, 2024 surrounded by his friends and family.
He was born on August 3, 1948 to Meredith and Agnes (Kwaterski) Nielsen in Green Bay, Wisconsin. Growing up Ted was blessed with a strong sense of faith, attending St. Joseph's Grade School, and Our Lady of Premontre School but transferred to the Franciscan Fathers BVM Monastery in Pulaski. Ultimately Ted's calling was not as a brother, but he did proudly and diligently serve in children's ministry, prayer ministry, and missions.
Ted's father dreamed that Ted would become an engineer, but considering he kept disassembling his toys that realistically may not have been a good fit. Ted's mechanical intuition did however, guide him towards a 36 year career at Schneider Trucking Company as a Diesel Mechanic. He may not have been able to put his toys back together, but if he drove in a car for any length of time he could diagnose any vehicle ailment.
Ted had a deep love for nature. He was an avid hunter, loved fly fishing, photographed anything that would stand still or wouldn't, and enjoyed any opportunity to hike.
On September 19, 1997, he married Karen Ann Nielsen (Bushman), however Karen almost missed the proposal. The couple was on a Isle Royal boat trip from Superior, and Karen's sea sickness dulled her response enough that she could hardly answer the question.
Ted is survived by his beloved spouse, Karen, 3 children: Kathryn (Steven) Meadowcroft, Michelle Nielsen, and Tara Meyer; 10 grandchildren: Tynne, Kearah, Devan, Adaya, Averi, Aydan, Hunter, Byron, Owen, and Arianna; 7 siblings: Mary (Clarence) James, Bonnie (Tony) Berken, Barb Dix, David (Cindy Ann) Nielsen, Betty (Jared) Mason, Cindy Lou (Scott) Hackl, and Jay (Paula Berg) Nielsen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Meredith and Agnes, and his grandson, Aaron Kennelly.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at Hope Community Church (302 Tristan Dr, Shawano, WI 54166) with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am.
