Terrence C. (Terry) Davison, 66, of Allouez, WI, completed his last earthly marathon on January 10, 2020, concluding a long illness.
The son of Chester E. (Chet) and Jessie M. (Teague) Davison, Terry was born on July 17, 1953, in Ontonagon, MI. He always retained his Yooper-born-and-bred spiritual connection to the Western Upper Peninsula, shaped by his experiences canoeing on the Ontonagon River, hiking in the Porkies and Norwich Bluffs, and lounging and partying on the best beaches in the world.
After high school, Terry enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1972. He was fortunate to spend part of his tour of duty stationed at RAF Upper Heyford, England, not far from where his mother's brother Trevor and sister Grace lived, which gave him a home away from home. Sgt. Davison was honorably discharged in 1976, and inspired by the story of how his WWII veteran dad brought home his English war bride Jessie, Terry drained his meager savings to ship his Norton motorcycle back to the U.S.
Terry then attended the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay with support through the GI Bill, earning a degree in Human Nutrition, after which he continued to demonstrate his nonconforming nature by consuming ridiculous volumes of potato chips and Caffeine-Free Diet Coke for the remainder of his life.
Terry worked for 30 years in food service, retail, and manufacturing, culminating in his favorite job as full-time dad for his daughters, Kaisa and Kirsten.
Terry inherited his mother's outgoing, sociable nature and his dad's…um…quirky…sense of humor. He blamed his trademark bluntness on his wife's alleged ability to project into his mind all the inappropriate comments she had the good sense not to say out loud herself.
He loved to cook and always made a kitchen mess proportionate to his enthusiasm, with many meals featuring his special "ceiling sauce." Not content with adding color to the ceiling, he once surprised his wife while she was out of town by painting the living room walls an almost-fluorescent, vibrating green – for which she now finally, publicly, forgives him, attributing this incident to the same color blindness that impaired his ability to sort laundry properly.
He has redeemed himself by bequeathing to said wife the indelible images of him attending various library and private events in costumes ranging from the charming storybook character "Tacky the Penguin" – but with long stork-like legs clad in ski sock – to the then-topical "Ross Perot (Google him, kids) on Bovine Growth Hormone" – complete with oversize rubber ears and udder.
A proud U.S. veteran, he was also proud to admit that he regularly sobbed while watching Lifetime Channel movies. An attentive observer of politics and current events, he regularly swore while watching the news. He valued integrity, fair-mindedness and the separation of church and state.
Terry is survived by his wife and best friend, Sandy Kallunki, Allouez, WI, who after 40 years has more than earned her t-shirt ("I survived Terry Davison") and who is finally at peace. He is also survived by his two darling daughters Kaisa Davison (fiancé Drew Jacobson), Green Bay, WI, and Kirsten Davison, Madison, WI; his loving and mostly-indulgent big sister Dawn Davison and brother-in-law Kirk Moser, Buckeye, AZ; his mum's relatives in England; and his dad's relatives and oodles of in-laws in the U.S.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a few close family members of the canine variety, notably Blacky and more recently, Sassy.
Terry was a fitness fanatic and avid runner almost to the end, having competed in many recreational 10K races and marathons. Now he can rest.
In keeping with his wishes, Terry will be cremated and arrangements have been entrusted to Newcomer Cremations Funerals & Receptions of Green Bay. A memorial celebration will be held next August in Lake Superior country. Also, in keeping with his wishes: "In lieu of flowers, don't forget to vote."
