Steve D. Kmiec

Steven D. Kmiec, age 69, passed away unexpectedly due to long term health issues on October 15, 2020. He was born in Chicago, IL the son of the late Stephen and Virginia (Walendziak) Kmiec. Steve moved to Green Bay in 1971 to further his education, at UW Green Bay; where he met Lorie. Steve married Lorie Niquette in 1977 at Old St. Joseph Catholic Church in De Pere. Their marriage was blessed with three children. Steve worked for John Somerville and Associates and later joined Shopko in their planning department as a project manager. After leaving Shopko he became the Architectural Representative with Ellerbe Becket during the Lambeau Field renovation from 2001 - 2003; where you can still see his name and his children's names on the yellow beam in the concourse. Later in retirement, Steve worked as a seasonal tax preparer at Liberty Tax.

Steve was an avid fisherman, and had a deep love for his purple Skeeter fishing boat. He enjoyed camping with his family, especially at Peninsula and Shakey Lakes. Being born in Chicago, he had a great passion for the Bears and the Blackhawks, which he shared with his son.

Steve is survived by his children: Kellyn (Nick) Bellisle, Brenna Kmiec, and Connor (Cass Asmann) Kmiec; and their mother, Lorie (Vaughn) Francar, two granddaughters: Madelyn and Emersyn Bellisle, former mother-in-law, Joan Niquette, and three granddogs: Wrigley, Lily, and Odie; and further survived by other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, beloved aunt and uncle, Sonia and Ted Zyzak, and special cousin, Bob Newman.

Friends and family may gather at Newcomer Chapel, 340 S. Monroe Ave in Green Bay on Thursday, October 22, 2020 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm with a private family service held later. Strict social distancing will be in practice for the gathering. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established.
