Ridley, Stephen Arthur "Steve-o", age 58 of Largo, FL, formerly of Abington, MA, died unexpectedly on Friday, May 22, 2015.
Stephen was born in Weymouth, MA on December 2, 1956, a son of James F. and the late Jaine (Porter)Ridley-Crowley. He grew up in Abington and was a 1974 graduate of Abington High School. He briefly attended Mass Maritime Academy before going to work for Wollaston Alloys. In 1986, Stephen relocated to the Los Angeles area eventually making his home in Sherman Oaks, CA. While there, he was employed by Cal-Tool and later for Reynolds Industries, Inc.
Throughout the 1990's and early 2000's, Stephen battled Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Following the death of his mother in 2009, Stephen relocated to Largo, FL. While in Florida, Stephen was very close with Audrey Franks and her family. He was an avid enthusiast of model ships and aircrafts; assembling many over the years. He was a history buff, particularly for WWII and other major world events. He was a great lover of music and was an amateur guitarist.
Stephen liked travelling, and returned home to New England often. He enjoyed visiting the White Mountains in New Hampshire but preferred to make his home in the more tropical climes of Florida and California. He loved the ocean and spending time at the beach, and was thrilled to take a cruise to Hawaii in 2007. He will be sadly missed.
Stephen is survived by his father, James F. Ridley of Braintree, MA, his grandmother Hazel L. Porter of Torrington, CT, and his sister Carolyn J. Barclay and her husband Billy of Ctr. Ossipee, NH. He also leaves an aunt, Nancy Knowlton of Litchfield, CT, a nephew, James A. Beaton of Green Bay, WI, and two nieces: Stephanie J. Hammond of Fall River, MA and Hillary M. Sullivan of Quincy, MA. Further survived by aunts and uncles, other relatives and friends. Additionally, Stephen is survived by his dear friend and companion Audrey Franks and her family, who together brought him great happiness in his final years.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jaine Porter Crowley, his step-father Paul K. Crowley, his sister Suzanne P. Hammond, his grandfather Arthur Porter and most recently by his uncle, Lawrence Knowlton as well as other members of the family.
A memorial gathering will be held Friday, June 12, 2015 from 6 to 9 PM at the Clancy-Lucid Funeral Home, 100 Washington Street, Weymouth, MA 02188 with a prayer service to follow. A funeral Mass will be held Saturday, June 13, 2015 at 11 AM at Trinity Episcopal Church, 220 Prospect Street, Torrington, CT 06790. Final rest will be private.
