Stanley "Old Bear" Critcher Sr., 81, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 16, 2021.
Stan was born on October 14, 1940 in North Carolina. He is the son of Norma Leigh Critcher and the late James Harold Critcher. In his childhood he spent a lot of time on the family farm with "Mama Critcher". At an early age he left North Carolina on his own to begin the next chapter of his life in Wisconsin. He arrived with only $100 in his pocket and found a job in the construction business. He then ventured into the Bar Industry, managing a bar in Green Bay called Speeds. He later opened his own tavern called Stan's Lounge in the Labor Temple Building on the east side of Green Bay. He operated the lounge for over 30 years until his retirement.
Stan enjoyed traveling so much that he visited Arizona and didn't come back for years! He was a world record holder in the Texas Hold'em Circuit. He also enjoyed competing in motorcross racing, hockey (both coaching his son and watching his grandson), hunting in Colorado and wrestling bears (to which he always claimed he lost his finger to). He loved spending time with his children and his grandchildren.
He is survived by his mom, Norma Leigh, and three children: Stanley (Ann) Critcher Jr., Jennifer (Michael) Schleis and Stacey (Paul) Scheffen. His three grandchildren: Cody, Brody and Kenzy, along with four step-grandchildren: Mercedes, Lathum, Abbie and Jacob. His cousins: Patricia Hayes along with her child DeLane, Audrey (Mike) Duke along with their children: Chris, Ryan, Dustin and Blair and Jimmy Walker. Stan also leaves Laurie Biersteker who was like a daughter to him. He is preceded in death by his uncle, Waverly (Marion) Critcher, aunt, Dorothy (Frank) Walker and uncle, W.C. Critcher.
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 22nd from 4 PM - 7 PM at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, 340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay. A funeral service will follow at 7 PM in the funeral home. You may view the service live online at:
