Sister Carlotta Ullmer, OSF, age 95, a member of the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross, Green Bay, died on December 26, 2014 at a local hospital.
The former Elmyra Theresa Ullmer was born October 9, 1919 in Green Bay, WI, daughter of the late Charles and Katherine (Nachtwey) Ullmer. She entered the convent in 1937, professed her vows in 1940, and celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in 1998.
Sister Carlotta earned a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education at St. Norbert College, De Pere, a Masters of Education in Guidance & Counseling, Marquette University, Milwaukee, WI, and certification to tutor in Laubach Literacy Action from Literacy Green Bay. She served as a teacher and/or principal at St. Joseph, Madison, St. Mary, Bear Creek, SS. Peter and Paul, Institute, St. Joan of Arc, Goodman, St. Boniface, De Pere, All Saints, Denmark, Holy Angels, Darboy, St. Matthew, St. Jude, and St. John the Baptist, Green Bay. She served as a tutor with Literacy Green Bay for over 25 years. In Community she served as Peace and Justice Coordinator, was a member of the Motherhouse Team and a volunteer in Community service at the convent.
Survivors include the Sisters of St. Francis of the Holy Cross and Associate members; a brother: Eldon (Maria), Fredericksburg, VA; two sisters: Dolores (Laurie) and (Donald) Rettmann, Green Bay, Charlene (Gary) Maus, New Brighton, MN; a sister-in-law, Edna Ullmer, Green Bay; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents: Charles and Katherine; brothers: Ronald and Gerald; sister: Kathleen Lasee; a sister-in-law: Betty.
Friends may call at St. Francis Convent, 3110 Nicolet Drive, Green Bay on Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at 4:00 p.m. for the reception of the body and visitation. The Vigil Service will be at 7:00 p.m. at the convent. Visitation for Sister Carlotta will continue on Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Holy Cross Church, 3009 Bay Settlement Road from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian burial at 10:00 a.m. with the Most Reverend Bishop Robert Morneau presiding. Burial will be in the St. Francis Convent Cemetery.
