The former Florence Mary Churas was born on January 25,1924 in the Town of Belmont, Wis., to the late Dominic and Clementina (Zyechowska) Churas, immigrants from Lithuania and Poland. She entered the convent in 1942, professed her vows in 1945, and celebrated her 75th anniversary in 2018.
Sister Virginia worked at the McCormick Memorial Home in Allouez and the Chapel in Robinsonville (now known as the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help), where she cared for the children's needs, worked in the kitchen and helped with other housework. She was a homemaker at Holy Cross, Mishicot, and was known for her hospitality, thoughtfulness, and grateful heart.
Once Sister Virginia moved to St. Francis Convent she helped out by driving Sisters to various appointments; helped with housework and grounds keeping; played the organ for Mass; used her artistic talent to create beautiful arrangements from the greens and blossoms from the convent yard. She loved the outdoors and enjoyed watching the birds and listening to their beautiful songs.
Sister Virginia had a deep devotion to our Blessed Mother. Prayer was the most important element in her life. She loved to smile at others and would say "You can't buy a smile".

Preceding her in death were her parents, Dominic and Clementina; brothers: Lewis, Carl and Antone; sisters: Evelyn Hanson, Rose Smith, and Julia Churas; and her sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
