Shirley M. Manning

b. December 27, 1939

Shirley (Jaeger) Manning, age 76, of Green Bay, passed away at home, Sunday, February 7, 2016, with her loving family at her side. Shirley was a courageous lady with a big heart who beat cancer twice, but this time the fight was too much. Shirley was born December 27, 1939 in Milwaukee, WI, daughter of the late Albert and Clara (La Rose) Jaeger. She moved to De Pere, WI in her teens where she graduated from East De Pere High and went on to earn her Bachelor's degree from Bellin College of Nursing.

Soon after earning her degree, she fell in love with and married her neighbor across the street, John Manning and together they shared 55 loving years of marriage. Shirley gave up nursing to start her family and to help others. She was a teachers' aide at Morgan l. Martin and Henry S. Baird schools for several years. She helped raise over 40 children as a neighborhood nanny over the years. She also volunteered at a local nursing home for over 25 years, assisting the elderly playing bingo two nights a week with her husband. Shirley and John retired from the nursing home in October 2015.

Shirley loved helping others. She loved to crochet, made beautiful silk flower arrangements and enjoyed trips up to their cottage. Most of all, Shirley loved spending time with her family. She always had a way to make someone smile and laugh and was always there when someone needed her.

Shirley is survived by her husband, John Manning; her 3 daughters: Terri (Ed) La Brec, Clair (Brad) Harrison and Cindy Pigeon (Tim Pigeon); 5 grandchildren: Christopher (Mandie) and John (Kaylyn) La Brec, Preston (Sarah), Dallas (Marquise) and Courtney (Nick) Pigeon; 3 great-grandchildren: Jaedyn, Fynlea and Skarlytt La Brec. She is further survived by her brothers and sisters: Raymond (Virginia) Jaeger, Larry (Pat) Jaeger, Helen (Ray) Kocha, Bill (Linda) Jaeger, Albert Jaeger, Jr., Gail Jaeger, Bud (Peg) Manning and Peg Vanden Hoogen; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Clara Jaeger; her in- laws, Milfred and Elaine Manning; an infant son; brothers-in-law, Don Manning and Clem Vanden Hoogen; sisters-in-law, Mary Manning and Beverly Jaeger; a niece, Tammy Jaeger and a nephew, Tom Manning.
