Shirley Lealiou

Shirley M. (DeGroot) Meunier Lealiou, age 91, of Suamico, formerly of Abrams, WI, passed away peacefully, Monday, September 9, 2024 with family at her side. She was born in Green Bay, February 21, 1933, daughter of the late Joseph P. and Marie R. (Hangstafer) DeGroot.

Shirley attended school in Green Bay. She married Joseph Lealiou Jr. in 1952 and the couple was blessed with 4 children before Joseph passed away in 1967. She later shared many years with Mike Meunier Sr., additionally blessed with 4 more children. Mike Sr. passed away in 2007. 

Shirley was a gifted singer and musician. From a young age, along with her equally talented sisters, Shirley shared her musical gifts. The siblings attended dancing school and performed together in downtown Green Bay for many years. Shirley had a special relationship with her sisters and enjoyed trips to the casino with them. Her family was her pride and joy. Spending time with them was her greatest joy.

Shirley is survived by her children: Sue (Dave) (Lealiou) (Noel) Matz, Ron (Kay) Lealiou, Steve (Rosie) Lealiou, Karen (Rick) Ninham, Mike (Rena) Meunier Jr., Shirley (Bob) Shockley and Julie (Jamie Sperling) Meunier, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is further survived by 2 sisters, Sandy Bilquist and Nancy Naniot, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her son, Tyron Meunier and 5 siblings: Betty (Chet) Wercheck, Sally (Don) Hyska, Joey DeGroot, Jerry DeGroot and Darla Schwartz.

Visitation will be held at Newcomer Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, WI), Monday, September 16, 2024 from 2 to 5 PM. A funeral service will follow at 5 PM.
