Shirley Ann Coakley

Shirley Ann Coakley, 90, Green Bay, passed away peacefully, Friday, September 10, 2021 with her daughters by her side. Shirley was born to the late Gordon Douglas Smith and Hannah (Johnson) Smith on July 1, 1931 in Menominee, MI. She graduated from Menominee High School in June of 1949 and married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth Peter Coakley on December 31, 1951. As a result of a job transfer, they lived in Oshkosh from 1965-1969, knowing that Green Bay would be their permanent residence.

Shirley's life interests were embroidery, sewing clothes for her young girls and their Barbie dolls. Shirley was recognized by the PTA for her service. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, going to the movies and an occasional trip to the casinos. Shirley was an active Packer fan and enjoyed going to some of the games. She also enjoyed volunteering at Bellin Hospital. Shirley was active in the Presbyterian Church by teaching Sunday School lessons, volunteering for pot luck, helping out with church picnics and rummage sales. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and going to Menominee to visit friends and relatives.

Shirley is survived by her 3 daughters: Stacey Ann Coakley, Julie Kay (Sam William) Abrego and Laurie Elizabeth (Roger Lawrence) Urmanski, all of Green Bay; 2 grandchildren, Roxane Rae Urmanski, Colorado Springs, CO, Anthony Peter Abrego and step-granddaughter, Carina (Matthew) Abrego-Koch, also of Green Bay; sister-in-law, Barbara Mae Smith, Menominee, MI and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband and her brother, Richard Gordon Smith.

Visitation will be held at Newcomer-Green Bay Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Monday, December 6, 2021 from 3 to 5 PM. A memorial service will follow at 5 PM with Chaplain Ron Urmanski officiating. Shirley's cremated remains will be buried in the family plot at Riverside Cemetery in Menominee, MI. .

The family would like to thank Care For All Ages assisted living for their care and compassion. The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Aurora Hospice Care with a special thank you to Jessica and Brianna for their help and support during this difficult time.
