Sherry Mildred Schafer, 79, of De Pere, passed away on January 24, 2024 at home surrounded by family. She was born on August 11, 1944 to Dewey and Verna (Hardtke) Ward. Shortly after high school she married Larry Cherveny; their marriage was blessed with two daughters. After 17 years they parted in divorce. Later she met and fell in love with Ron Schafer and they were happily married for over 41 years.
She was baptized Jehovah Witness on July 1, 1989. Her faith was her solid foundation and her congregation was a second family.
Ron and Sherry enjoyed fishing, the Packers and spending time with friends and family. They moved to Yuma, Arizona in 1993, to be close to her parents and care for them as they aged. They remained there until 2018, then, returned to Wisconsin to be closer to her daughters. Sherry was very artistic. She loved to paint, draw, sew, and bake; she was always up to try something new. She had a passion for shopping, especially going to the thrift shops with her daughters. She had a knack for finding that perfect item for someone special.
Sherry is survived by her two loving daughters: Lori (Steve) Piontek and Tina (Keith) Brunner; seven grandchildren: Andy Piontek, Aaron (Casey) Thibodeau, Jessilyn (Ben) Klaas, Matthew Thibodeau, Re'Anna Piontek, Davis (Marissa) Manci, and Jake Manci; 12 great-grandchildren: Kayden, Isaac, Emmett, Madeline, Caroline, Ellie, Ethan, Boston, Kade, Dayne, Memphis, and Aamara; brothers: Gary (Rita) Paape, and Lester “Butch” (Barbara) Ward
