Shawn Bernard Gokey, age 59, of Green Bay, passed away Friday, August 26, 2022, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born April 3, 1963 in Uncasville, CT, son of the late Basil Bernard and Karen (Larsen) Gokey.
Shawn grew up in a Navy family and lived in many cities and states, attending schools all over the country, including Hawaii and California. Eventually his parents moved to Wisconsin where Shawn graduated from high school. After graduation, Shawn enlisted in the US Navy and proudly served his country, serving most of his time as a cryptologist, stationed in Okinawa, Japan, until his honorable discharge. He married Cindy De Both, October 26, 2002 and they shared 2 decades of love and friendship. Shawn was a gifted saucier and chef at The Olive Garden for 27 years, a career that he was very proud of.
Shawn had a soft spot in his heart for cats and currently was a cat dad to 4 feline companions. His best buddy, Izzy, would not leave his side. He loved to cheer on the Brewers, Packers and Bucks. His uncle Les was his go-to for chatting about the Brewers games. He was an avid bowler, pool shooter and won many tournaments. Shawn's proudest accomplishment was being a dad.
Shawn is survived by his wife, Cindy; his son, Basil Bernard Gokey II; step-children: Julie Blodgett, Adam (Colleen) Blodgett and Joshua Blodgett and his children, Ruthanne and Maryanna; his mother, Karen; his brother, Scott Gokey and a sister, Stephanie. He is further survived by numerous step-siblings, other relatives and close friends, Steve and Rick.
He was preceded in death by his father, Basil Bernard Gokey.
A celebration of Shawn's life will be held at Newcomer-Green Bay Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Tuesday, August 30, 2022 from 1 to 3 PM. A service will follow at 3 PM with full military honors. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Suamico.
Shawn's family would like to thank the medical professionals at St. Vincent and St. Mary's Hospitals, especially Dr. AJ at St. Vincent ER and Nurse Paul at St. Mary's ICU for their care and compassion. Thank you, as well, to the wonderful supervisors at The Olive Garden, Lynn and Lisa, who treated Shawn with such dignity and respect.
