Ruth Ann J. Borremans, age 78, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2023. She was born April 27, 1944, in Manitowoc, WI, to Clarence and Edna (Schmidt) Sievert.
Ruth was raised on the family farm in the Town of Gibson, just a short distance from Mishicot, WI. As a young girl, many of her days started well before dawn doing farm chores before heading off to school, a one-room schoolhouse that taught first through 8th grades. Her early days in rural Manitowoc County shaped the way Ruth would live the rest of her life – with honesty and humility, a quiet strength.
After graduating from Mishicot High School in 1962, Ruth moved to Milwaukee, WI to attend dental school where she earned her dental assistant certification. She soon after moved to Green Bay, WI to begin her career and ultimately meet and marry Gary "Skip" Borremans, a Green Bay native. The two were married on March 31, 1969 in Chicago, IL, and remained married for 53 years until Skip's passing in November 2022.
After the birth of her sons (Chad and Branden) in the early and mid-1970s, Ruth took a break from work to focus on raising them. Chad and Branden are forever grateful to their mom for always being there for them when they were young. They're also forever grateful to their mom for not being furious with them for defacing her sewing box while she and dad were out bowling. By the late 80s, Ruth felt her boys were finally mature enough to return to work. She was hired by Lord's Dental Studio in 1988 as a dental technician, a position she held for 22 years before retiring in 2010.
In addition to the consistent kindness and compassion Ruth had for everyone she met, she had two other passions – sports and art.
Ruth was an avid volleyball player, bowler, and golfer, having participated in several recreational leagues throughout the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Not surprisingly, she was often the 'anchor bowler' on her bowling teams, a slot reserved for the strongest bowler who could get your team a strike when it was needed most. She was also a HUGE sports fan, always rooting for the Packers, Badgers, Brewers, Bucks, and UW-Green Bay Lady Phoenix basketball team.
Ruth was also a gifted artist, honing her sketching and painting skills from her early days on the farm. Ruth's homes were filled with her framed landscape paintings, often featuring pastoral settings in Wisconsin or dramatic vistas in Colorado, a place she visited regularly to see her sons. In addition to framed paintings, Ruth also painted custom Christmas ornaments for family, friends, and co-workers. For those closest to her, Ruth's memory will forever shine brightly through her artwork.
Perhaps Ruth's quiet strength was needed most in the final decade of her life, after having been diagnosed with a rare cancer (Eccrine) in 2014 followed by heart disease in 2017. Reluctant to ever complain, Ruth stoically weathered hospital stays, treatments, and relentless symptoms until the very end. It should also be noted what a wonderful caregiver Skip was to Ruth in her later years.
After just three and a half months, Skip is now reunited with the kind, sweet lady he fell in love with more than 50 years ago. May they both rest in peace, together.
Ruth is survived by her sons, Chad and Branden; sister, Diane (Sievert) Johnson; nephews, Peter and Mike Borremans.
Family, friends, and others whose lives Ruth touched are invited to the NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME, 340 S. Monroe Avenue, Green Bay, WI 54301 to gather from 1 pm - 3 pm with a service to follow at 3 pm on Saturday, March 11, 2023, to reminisce, grieve, laugh, and support each other.
