Ronald Dennis Schafer of Green Bay, passed away on July 5, 2023. He was 79 years old and was born on August 30, 1943. He was born and raised in this special city of Green Bay with five other siblings. His parents were William and Elin Schafer. The sadness of his passing was met with heart-felt pain. He enriched our lives with his God-given gift of a sense of humor that uplifted our spirits thousands of times. He was a gentle, kind and humble man, beloved by family and many friends.
He was a very hard worker in his capable years. In his youth, he was blessed with being an exceptional football player on West High School's great football team. He was one of the "4 Aces" of the 1960 West High School championship team.
As a young man, he married Jackie Liedeka. They had three children: Steve, Rick (deceased) and Heidi (Eddie). As they moved about with Ron's job in retail, they eventually returned to Green Bay, and he worked in management at Kmart for many years.
Ron loved fishing and waterskiing with his children on the "Silver Streak." He played handball for many years at the YMCA. When it came to speed, he was fast, competing in the 100 yard dash. One of his few and most important sayings was, "Taking Care of Business" or "TCB".
As years passed swiftly and circumstances changed, Ron became single again, and after some years he married Sherry (Sherry's daughters - Tina and Lori) his present wife. They eventually moved to Yuma, AZ and lived there many years. They had many adventures as you can imagine!
They returned to Green Bay after many years, and Ron's health started to deteriorate. He resided in assisted living for the final years of his life, and had great care.
His sisters and brothers were as follows: Patricia Qualiana (deceased), Lee Schafer (deceased), Beverly Adamson, Bob Schafer (Cindy) of Green Bay, and Lynne Johnston (Richard) of Noblesville, IN.
Friends and family may visit at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals, Receptions, 340 S. Monroe Ave, on Friday, July 7, 2023 from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm with a memorial service to follow at 4:00 pm.
Oh God, bless all that mourn. Accompany them in grief. Walk with them each day until their pain becomes peace.
We had 43 years together. We were married on March 20th, 1982. These were exciting and interesting years, to say the least. We loved traveling, fishing and working side by side.
We had a wonderful life together. Ron lived and loved with exceptional passion. His sense of humor got us over many rocky roads.
To him, there were no strangers, just people he hadn't met yet. He lived with Parkinsons for 18 years and fought hard not to let it slow him down. He was a fighter. I will miss him until I join him. Good-bye my sweet man. Thanks for the memories.
