Ronald Lee Nikolai Sr., age 78, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, July 19, 2023, with his loving family at his side. He was born October 20, 1944 in Wausau, WI, son of the late Anthony and Loriena (Christian) Nikolai and was a graduate of Wausau High School, Class of 1963.
Ronald married the love of his life, Judy Feranec, June 11, 1966 in Phillips, WI and they shared 39 years of marriage before Judy passed in 2005. Ron attended North Central Technical College where he trained to be a journeyman electrician. The majority of his career as an electrician was served at Fort Howard (now Georgia Pacific), retiring after many dedicated years.
Ron was an active parent, volunteering as a Boy Scout Leader and attending all of his childrens' activities. He was an avid outdoorsman and shared his love of the outdoors with his family, especially fishing and camping. The family also made many memories on the road trips they took. He also had a passion for racing stock cars, which was shared with his son, Ron Jr. Ron was a talented cook and enjoyed making meals for his family and friends. He was a proud dad and grandpa and taught his kids and grandkids how to cook. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and was fortunate to have met his 4 great-grandchildren. The entire family will cherish the memory of his heartfelt cards and messages that included his trademark "Newton."
Ronald is survived by his children, Ron (Kelly) Nikolai Jr. and Wendy (Joe) Skelly; 6 grandchildren: Billy (Becky), Michael (fiance, Taylor), Natasha (Nico Mead), Andrew and Logan Nikolai and Cody Skelly; 4 great-grandchildren: Charlotte Mead, Wyatt Nikolai, Wade Nikolai and Levi Mead and 3 sisters: Barbara (Gary) Bohm, Monica (Dan) Nest and Debbie (Mike) Zahrt. He is further survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, son, Christopher Chad Nikolai, his parents and his sister, Sandy (Jerry) Beck.
Visitation will be held at Union Congregational Church (716 S. Madison St., Green Bay, WI), Saturday, July 22, 2023 from 9 to 10 AM. A funeral service will follow at 10 AM. Burial will be in Fort Howard Memorial Park.
Ron's family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the first responders for their care and quick action, as well as the staff at St. Vincent Hospital and Unity Hospice for their care and compassion. Special thanks to his loving granddaughter, Natasha for her quick action in administering CPR to her grandpa in his time of need.
