Ronald J. Kempton

July 8, 1951 — September 30, 2022

Ronald "Ron" J. Kempton, 71, of Green Bay, WI, died peacefully at home surrounded by loved ones on September 30th, 2022, after a lengthy thirteen-year battle with complications from cancer treatment.

Ron was born on July 8, 1951, in Superior, Wisconsin to Evelyn and Jerome Kempton and attended Cathedral School and graduated from Superior Senior High School, Class of 1970. From an early age, one of Ron's favorite things was to cheer on any Wisconsin sports team he could. From listening on an AM transistor radio under his pillow, to watching his favorite teams in person, sports were a lifelong passion that he shared with his entire family. He was always willing to go to any sporting event and cheer on his team.

On July 10th, 1977, he met the love of his life Sharon "Sherri" (Regner) Kempton. Shortly after they met, Ron encouraged Sherri to pick a football team so they could spend more time together. It was at that moment that their forty-five-year rivalry between the Packers and the Bears began. Three years after Sherri picked the opposing team, the two still wed on August 30, 1980, at Cathedral Christ the King Church in Superior, Wisconsin. The two raised three beautiful daughters: Rhonda Jo, Crystal Joy, and Heather Jill. Ron worked hard all his life and was proud of his time working in the moving industry for A1 Movers and for twenty years as a laborer at Franklin Foods. He loved taking Sunday drives with his family and eating ice cream whenever he could. He fostered a love of sports in his daughters and even got to watch one daughter get married at Lambeau Field. Ron also loved fishing and doing anything he could with his wife and daughters.

On May 16th, 2019, Ron met the second love of his life, his granddaughter, Zoe Madison Dubey. She was the light of his life for the last three years and he enjoyed every moment he got with her. She made him laugh and he taught her the importance of the tv remote, that you should always eat pudding, and that Yaya (Sherri) is always right.

Ron lived in Superior for sixty-seven years but lived out his last four years living next-door to his daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter in Green Bay, WI, where he could drive his Chicago Bears-loving wife to Lambeau whenever he wanted. The two enjoyed many more adventures together in a new area, including getting to finally see their two teams compete against one another at Lambeau. (Ron would like everyone to know that the Packers won!)

Ron was the strongest man we knew and fought a hard battle to defeat nasopharyngeal cancer and lived 13 years post-treatment. Ron's family is so thankful for those extra 13 years together and couldn't be prouder of his fight.

Ron is survived by his loving wife of forty-two years, Sharon J. Kempton (Green Bay, WI); daughter, Rhonda Jo (Jeremy) Bentley and their dog, Winston (Superior, WI); daughter, Crystal Joy (Dan) Dubey, granddaughter, Zoe Madison Dubey and their dog, Mazie and turtle, Houdini (Green Bay, WI); and daughter, Heather Jill Kempton (Green Bay, WI). He is further survived by siblings, Linda (Dick) Saari (Rice Lake, WI), Dennis Kempton (Virginia, MN), and two sisters-in-law, Bonnie (Greg) Welch (Ogema, WI) and Patty Regner (Westboro, WI), and one brother-in-law, Chuck (Annie) Regner (Wausau, WI)and many nieces and nephews, along with close friend, Jeff Niemi (Minneapolis, MN).

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn and Jerome Kempton, sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Donald Warren II, long-time friend, Steven E. Brown, and many dear family members and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on July 8th, 2023, in Superior, Wisconsin at Billings Park from 1:00-4:00pm. Guests are encouraged to wear their favorite sports team's attire.

Ron will always be remembered and greatly missed by those who knew him. We are so thankful we got to watch him be the best grandpa ever. Love and miss you forever, Dad/Grandpa. Go Pack Go!

Ron's family would like to sincerely thank Heartland Home Care/Promedica Hospice for all their love and support during Ron's toughest trials this past year.
