Ronald O. Bredeson

January 10, 1932 — August 8, 2020

Ronald Otto Bredeson, 88, longtime resident of Oconto Falls, WI, died peacefully at home, August 7, 2020.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Jacklyn (Snooky Hansen) Bredeson; one son, Dr. Daniel Bredeson (Jeannine); two grandsons, Jace and Cole who reside in Borne, Texas, a daughter Laurie Mack and husband Steven from Venice, FL; a sister-in-law Marjorie Derrah and husband Donald Glassell, Chicago, IL; two nephews, William Derrah, his wife Alicia, Western Springs, IL, their 4 sons and granddaughter, Christopher Derrah, his 2 sons and daughter, Seattle, WA; talented niece, Kathryn Derrah and Terrance Edwards, Concord, CA survive him, along with Erik Hansen, nephew from Louisville, CO. Theodora Hanson, Ron's mother, and 2 brothers, Richard Bredeson and Robert Watson, all of Edgerton, WI preceded him in death.

Ronnie was born in 1932 in Chicago, IL. While traveling to Stoughton, WI with family, his father Elmore died while changing a tire.

His family moved to Stoughton, WI where Ron graduated from Stoughton High School in 1948. While there he lettered in basketball and track and sang in both high school and church choirs.

Before attending Milton College in Milton, WI, Ron worked at General Motors in Jainesville, WI where he color matched seats to cars as they rapidly came off the assembly line. He said it took 3 people to replace him; I believe him.

Teddy Hanson, his mother, owned several restaurants and a bowling alley. Ron says he was an ace chef; that is doubtful; cooking was not his forte. Both Teddy and Ron were star bowlers; they have many trophies to prove it.

For eleven years Ron served in the Wisconsin National Guard and achieved rank of Sergeant-Major. He was the Senior Military leader in charge of weapons training and teaching. There he discovered his love of training and teaching.

Milton College offered Ron an academic and basketball scholarship. Throughout his college years he played guard and was a first string player. Ron was known for his trick shots that he usually made. As a member of the track team Ron held records for the long jump. While being a member of the basketball and track teams, Ron still found the time to sing in the Milton College Choir. He graduated with honors from Milton and then earned a Masters in Biology from the University of Eau Claire.

In his early years at OFHS Ron traveled to outlying schools teaching Physical Education. He loved the cooks at Abrams Elementary School and the grade school girls loved and clamored for flag football.

Teachers at OFHS were star bowlers and basketball players for many years, and took honors in both sports. A memorable true story is when the faculty played the Green Bay Packers for a charity event at the high school. After the exciting game the entire team spent the night at the Bredeson home, listening to piano music played by the Packer team.

Ron always enjoyed deer hunting at Doug Smith's cottage, Tommy Malcomson has many stories to tell; some he will not.

After retirement Ron and Jackie traveled the world buying antiques for their many cases; included were jewelry pieces Ron made by lost wax casting; a skill he honed.

The winters were enjoyed on Fort Myers Beach, FL with Oconto Falls friends Dave and Anne Funderburg, Ginny Just, and Al Perucco, Naples friends, Jerry (deceased) and MaryAnn Muenich were very important in Ron's life. A good-bye to Ron will be hosted by Florida friends, Rich and Libby Kesselring on Ft. Myers Beach this winter.

Am hoping Ronnie is golfing in the Heavens with his buddies, Bruce Blom, Doug Smith, Tommy Wenzel and Gary Just. What a foursome to rattle the clouds.

Ron loved his life, his wife, family, friends, stories, traveling, playing sports, teaching and a good cigar.

A memorial fund has been established in Ron's name at the River Island Golf Course, Oconto Falls, WI to place a memorial bench in honor of his life.

A special thank you to Unity Hospice who made his last days comfortable and to Dr. Scott Liebl, Oconto Falls, WI, for his friendship and dedication. He returned the twinkle in Ron's eyes.

A memorial will be held at the River Island Golf Course when COVID has passed.

Goodbye Ronnie, you are missed.
