Ronald P. "Ron" Marto, age 85, of Algoma, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, May 12, 2021, after a short illness. He was born June 16, 1935 in Green Bay, son of the late Theodore and Johanna (Roskam) Marto and was a graduate of Green Bay West High School.
In the early 1960's, Ron served proudly as a member of the Army National Guard during the Cuban Missile Crisis. After returning from his military service, Ron married Janice "Jan" Dziengeleski, September 22, 1962. They shared 52 wonderful years of marriage before Jan passed away in 2015. Ron was a firefighter with The Green Bay Fire Department for 30 years, achieving the rank of District Commander.
In addition to his work with the fire department, Ron was also a talented musician, gunsmith, taxidermist and worked several other part-time jobs. After retirement, Ron and Jan spent countless hours working on their dream home in Algoma, near the shores of Lake Michigan.
Ron was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a huge advocate for the hunter safety program and trained many young people how to handle firearms safely. Ron was also passionate about aviation and was the Safety Director for the Sturgeon Bay Chapter of the Civil Air Patrol for many years and volunteered yearly at EAA Airventure.
Ronald is survived by 3 children: Sheila (Greg) Ronk, JoEllen (Kim) VanDenElzen and Nick (Melissa) Marto; 3 grandchildren: Kari (special friend, Jason Wade) Ronk, Liz (Clayton) Becker and Becca (Brock) Mallmann and 3 great-grandchildren: Rosalie, Evelyn and Jack.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Ron is preceded in death by 2 brothers, Ken and Thomas Marto and a grandson, Ted Ronk.
