Robert A. Hamilton Jr., age 88, passed away at his home in Green Bay on Friday, February 7, 2025. He was born July 1, 1936 in Auburn NY to Robert A. and Ethel I. Hamilton.
He graduated from Auburn East High School where he lettered in football and track. He attended Auburn Community College and he earned an RN degree from Grasslands Hospital in Valhalla NY, and B.S. Degree from Columbia University in New York City. He worked as the head nurse at NY Hospital, Westchester Division, in White Plains NY for several years.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 during the Vietnam War. At the time he was married and had 2 sons, but the army was calling up 500 male nurses. He served until 1976 as a nurse Anesthetist at military hospitals in Germany, South Korea, as well as several locations in the US. He attained the rank of Major.
In 1992, he married his wife Rita Stahlkopf, in Sheboygan, WI. After retirement they lived in The Villages, FL, for 15 years before returning to Wisconsin in 2013. Bob was an avid reader, and enjoyed duplicate Bridge, golf, and classical music.
He is survived by his wife, Rita, and 3 sons from a previous marriage; Stephen S. of Tinley Park IL, Barry A. of Rockford IL, and Robert E. (Kimberly) of Chesapeake VA. And 8 grandchildren; Molly, Jensen, Brinn, Bailey, Natalie, Liam, Danielle, and Elsie. Also by his 2 step-sons; Brian and Mark Stahlkopf. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy Jones.
A family gathering will take place at a later date.
Bob would like to thank the VA dialysis team who gave him such wonderful care, for the past 2 years, and also his Hospice nurse Angie.
