Robert Burke "Bob" Ellis, age 82, of Green Bay, passed away Monday, January 15, 2018. He was born March 11, 1935 in Green Bay, WI to the late Leeland and Esther (Burke) Ellis.
Bob went to a local grade school and graduated from West High School in 1953. He volunteered for the draft in 1953 and served in the U.S. Army where he was stationed at Salzburg, Austria and Fort Devens, MA. While stationed in Massachusetts, he met the love of his life, Mary Riopelle. Bob and Mary were married, September 9, 1956 in Lowell, MA. They enjoyed 43 years together and had 5 children before she passed away, February 5, 2000.
From 1956 until 1962 Bob worked for the GBW Railroad. In April of 1962 he started with the Brown County Sheriff's Department. Bob served many positions within the department and retired in 1988 as the Jail Commander.
Bob is survived by 2 children, Kevin (Lori) Ellis, Greensboro, GA and Debbie Billodeau, Green Bay; 6 grandchildren: Melissa (Matt) Mitchell, Erika (Charlie) Murren, Todd (Haley) Ellis and Matt Ellis, Samantha and Nicole Billodeau; 5 great-grandchildren: Ava, Olivia, Harper, McKenzie and Madalyn; a sister, Donna Cass and other relatives and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his parents; daughter, Roberta Henderson; 2 sons, Richard and Donald Ellis and brother-in-law, John Cass.
Visitation will be held at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Friday, January 19, 2018 from 3 to 6 PM. Burial will be in Nicolet Memorial Gardens.
