On June 9, 2022, one of God's special children, Rita Marie Burbey ascended into Heaven to join her father, Ralph Burbey and her sister, Susan Burbey.
Rita was born December 7, 1957, in Oconto, WI to Ralph and Priscilla Burbey. At the time of her passing, Rita was residing at Hannah 1 in Green Bay, WI. Her sisters and caregivers were blessed to be at her side.
Prior to the pandemic, Rita participated in ASPIRO's Senior Day Program. Rita was known for her bag full of yarn and material that went everywhere with her. You were an instant friend if you helped her roll her balls of yarn or cut her material. She loved going out to eat and having her hot cocoa with whipped cream on top. Christmas was Rita's magical time. When we were in high school, all we had to say was "Santa came" and Rita would go wake mom and dad, no matter how early it was. She loved ripping open the packages and did not care who they belonged to or what was inside.
Rita was preceded in death by her father, Ralph, and her sister, Susan Burbey. She is survived by her mother, Priscilla Burbey and sisters: Katherine (Kitty) Burbey-Reed (Mike Reed) and Lori (Dale) Schaden, nieces and nephews, Sarah (Jim) Jabo, Danielle (Andy) Johnson,Theresa Prevost, Lisa Schaden (Allyn), Nicole Schaden, Brittany Schaden, Kristi Gilligan, Hunter Schaden, Kaleb Schaden, Bryan (Leah) Landrie, and Matthew (Nicole) Landrie, step-nieces Amanda Reed, Laura Reed, Christy (Justin) Rohe, and Tammy (Josh) Steinbrecher, 19 great nieces and nephews and 9 step great nieces and nephews.
Rita had resided at Hannah 1 in Green Bay, WI since 2009. Her House Manager, Shirley Smith and her caregivers, Tiffany Mullen, Katrina Ehrenberg, Maria Reacco, Sandra Anderson, Diane Cundy, and Kaitlyn Brilliott as well as the housemates and friends at Hannah 1 House were her second family. They all had a sisterly bond with Rita and will never forget their blessed time with her. We cannot thank them enough for all the love, care and compassion they have shown Rita over the years and especially during her ongoing illnesses since November 2021.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 15th from 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM at Newcomer Cremations Funerals & Receptions, 340 S. Monroe Avenue, Green Bay. A service will follow at 5:30 PM in the funeral home. Burial will be on August 12th at 1 PM at St. Benedict's Cemetery in Suamico.
We would also like to extend our thanks for Unity Hospice, ASPIRO and Innovative Services for their participation in Rita's life.
