Richard Ira Reid, 92, gained eternal rest Thursday, December 17, 2020 completing a full and rich life.
Richard was born to Ira Richard Barrow and Effie Reid, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on August 24, 1928. He moved to Nashville, Tennessee, USA as a young child after the deaths of his parents and gained US citizenship.

As a young man, Richard served in the US Army during WWII and the Korean War, to serve the country gaining an Honorable Discharge. After service, Richard settled in Chicago, IL, where he worked for the US Postal Service, the IC Trains, as a Milkman, and then spent 40 years until retirement as a medical transporter for the University of Illinois. He was fluent in several languages and enjoyed the reaction of others when he spoke in another language. Richard and his former wife, Juliet Cook-Bey Reid, raised four children, and he was incredibly proud to be grandfather of 10, great-grandfather to 15, and great-great grandfather to 3 children.

Richard is survived by his children Carmen Davis (IL), Anthony (Chris) Reid (Canada), Richard M. Reid (IL), and Donna Reid-Bey (WI); grandchildren Marnissi (Stephen) Masters (CA) with whom he had a special relationship, Brian (Robin) Reid (WA), Charlinda Catchings (GA), Marla Davis (IL), Mohammed (Katie) Bey and Mahtab Reid-Bey (WI), Lydia Reid and Emil Reid (Canada), as well as many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and former neighbors throughout the United States and the Philippines.

He was met in Heaven by his beloved wife of 39 years, Benita Dorotan Reid, his parents Ira Richard Barrow and Effie Reid, Sister Ida McClain and his Baby Brother Barrow, former wife Juliet Cook-Bey Reid; grandchildren Donna and Abigail Bey, Ahmed Jamal Bey, Glenn Davis, and Carmen Reid-Bey David; and great-grandchildren Cara Mia McCullum and Mario McCullum.

The family of Richard express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Allouez Parkside Assisted Living #2 and to the compassionate care of the hospice staff from Heartland Hospice who helped dignify Richard's final year and ease his transition home.
