Richard W. "Dick" Nelson, age 76, of Green Bay, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023. Dick was born May 30, 1946 in Sturgeon Bay, WI to the late John and Kathleen (Wulf) Nelson. He grew up in Sturgeon Bay and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1964 where he participated in various sports. He spent his summers in Egg Harbor where he helped his parents run the Driftwood Motel and made many lifelong friends.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1966 and served in Vietnam until 1968. He graduated with an Associates degree from Milwaukee Technical College and a Bachelors in Business from Lakeland College in 1971.
Dick worked for Moore Business Forms/Response Graphics as a cost estimator for nearly 30 years and Vertz Investments where he kept books and managed Grace Manor in Green Bay. He was a scout leader and soccer coach. He enjoyed golf outings, swimming, water-skiing, family camping trips, and fishing. Dick made people laugh with his sense of humor and clever sayings. He attended First Assembly of God, Interfaith Fellowship, and Celebration Church.
He was preceded in death by an older brother John Nelson and is survived by his children, Richard R. Nelson (Bobby Jo), Jeffrey Nelson (Rebecca), Jessica Vande Walle (Dan), and Holly Sabel (Joe), younger brother David Nelson (Dolly), 17 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Visitation on Saturday February 11 from 9-11 am at CrossPoint Church (1880 Southbridge Rd., De Pere). Celebration of life to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent in honor of Dick's granddaughter Tori Nelson to Syble Hopp school.
