Richard G. Ladwig, 85, Green Bay, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012 at San Luis Nursing Home. He was born November 8, 1926 in Antigo, WI to the late William and Theresa (Schroepfer) Ladwig. Dick attended St. John's Catholic Grade School. In 1944 he graduated from Antigo High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. Dick attended Radio School at the University of Wisconsin Madison and then served as radioman in the S. Pacific and China until 1946. Dick was employed as an agent telegrapher on Chicago Northwestern Railroad and later as traffic representative in Green Bay. He was later employed as a salesman with Green Bay Grocery and Pioneer Distributing. Dick married Joan Pevonka on July 11, 1964 at Sacred Heart Church in Shawano.
Dick was a member of the Baylander Barbershop Chorus for 35 years, the VFW Post in Ashwaubenon, the Knights of Columbus in Ashwaubenon, the St. Jude Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent De Paul Society, Retired Men's Club of Green Bay, and the Stephen's Ministry at Nativity Catholic Parish. He was a founding member of the St. Agnes Chapter and volunteered for many years at the St. Vincent De Paul Store of Green Bay. Dick was a Eucharistic Minister in the St. Agnes area and San Luis and Woodside Nursing Homes.
Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Joan; 3 children: Lisa (John) Reiman, Howard; Laurie (Jim) Stelling, League City, TX; and Lynn Umentum, Green Bay; 4 grandchildren: Michael and Abigail Reiman, Nicole Stelling, and Nathan Umentum; sisters, Marie (Jerry) Stern Antigo and Mary Ladwig, Pelican Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother; sister, Wilhelmine (Jim) Jones; and brothers, Jack and James Ladwig.
Family and friends may call Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 2270 S. Oneida St., Green Bay, from 9:00am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church, Tuesday, at 11:00am with Rev. John H. Harper officiating and Rev. James Samter concelebrating. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum.
Dick's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at San Luis Nursing Home (Kindred Transitional Care).
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for Nativity Parish.
