Richard Johnsen

Richard "Dick" F. Johnsen, 90, beloved husband of the late Audrey (Kummers) Johnsen, departed this life peacefully on Monday, November 19, 2018 surrounded by his family.

Dick was born to the late Hilmer and Amelia (Radue) Johnsen in the town of New Denmark April 20, 1928. He graduated from Langes Corner Grade School in 1943 and later Denmark High School in 1947. Dick was employed at Procter & Gamble Paper Products for nearly 40 years until his retirement in June of 1988. He was a Veteran and served in the WI ARNG 32nd DIV from 1948 - 1956. He was also a member of UPIU Local 65 and served as Financial Secretary for 17 years until retiring.

Dick was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Evangelical Lutheran Church from 1948 until the present where he ushered for many years, and served on the worship committee. He enjoyed his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Dick was known for never meeting a stranger, after talking to them, he had made a new friend. In addition he was a member of the Local Concerned Hearts Club since 1989.

He married the former Audrey Kummers on October 10, 1953 in Green Bay and together they had 5 children; Susan (Chris) Simons of New Franken, David (Jean) Johnsen of Madison, Donna (Brian) Hinckley of Green Bay, Dennis (Penny) Johnsen of Green Bay, and Lisa (Erik) Strobeck of Spring Hill, TN, 13 grandchildren Rebecca (Chet) Lamers, Amy (Ben) Bertram, Adam (Lisa) Johnsen, Jennifer (Mike) Conner, Nicole (Rich) Dorsey Jr., Tina (Ryan) Sabin, Debra (Jeremy Kaye) Hinckley, Tyler, Collin, & Mercedez Johnsen, Rachel, Rebekah, & Jacob Strobeck, along with 12 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends, as well as sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Russ) Krueger of Brookfield, Lynn Hennes of Kaukauna, and Mary Kummers of Green Bay.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert (Mildred) Johnsen, sister Doris (Clarence) Jahnke, father-and mother-in-law George Sr. and Philomena Kummers, 3 brothers-in-law Herman (Lucille), George Jr., and Vernon (Marlene) Kummers, and his 3 year old brother-in-law Jackie. He is also preceded in death by his beloved pets, Rusty and Smokey.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 23rd from 12 PM - 2 PM at Newcomer - Green Bay Chapel, 340 S. Monroe Avenue, Green Bay. Visitation will continue on Saturday, November 24th from 9 AM until the funeral service at 11 AM at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 514 S. Clay Street, Green Bay. Entombment will be private at Allouez Catholic Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers Dick requested memorial contributions to be directed to: Time of Grace Ministry, 101 E North Ave, Milwaukee, WI 53212, Freedom House, 2997 St. Anthony Drive, Green Bay, WI 54311 or a charity of your choice.

Dick's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Pastor Zabell and Pastor Kratz for their ministry to him. They would also like to thank the staff of Unity Hospice and Odd Fellows Nursing Home for the compassion and care given to him throughout his final journey.
