Rick died peacefully with his family by his side on July 23, 2016. He was born on August 11, 1942, to Richard and Mary (Wheeler) Evans in Green Bay. He graduated from Premontre High School and received a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and a M.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
Rick was an intelligent man of many interests and talents. He was a talented photographer and worked for The Compass, the official newspaper of the Green Bay Catholic Diocese, for many years. He was also an accomplished tennis player and musician, a gifted writer and an intrepid sailor. He had a passion for sports and sailed competitively throughout the area on small one-design boats and larger vessels. He competed on the bay of Green Bay and throughout the Midwest for over 30 years. During this time he won or placed in several championships, including the Midwest District Championship and the North American Championship. He was a long-time member of the Green Bay and Windjammers Sailing Clubs, Western Racquet Club and Delta Sigma Phi. He was blessed with many lifelong friends and a large, loving family.
He is survived by his beloved partner of 30 years, Mari Martin; his sisters, Tori Evans Rader (Bob), De Pere and Nancy Evans Keappock, Arlington, Texas; his brothers: Rob Evans (Kris), Green Bay, John Evans (Bonnie), Green Bay and Mark Evans (Fran), San Diego; his treasured nieces and nephews: Kristin Rader Cafferty (Patrick), his goddaughter, Racine, John Rader (Jennifer), Denver, Michael Rader (Amy), De Pere, Mark Rader (Katherine), Bloomington, MN, Susan Keappock, Astoria, NY, Emily Keappock Lowe (Nick), Astoria, NY, Richard Evans (Jamie), River Hills, David Evans (Meredith), Green Bay and Susan Evans, New York City and his grand nieces and nephews: Jack, Quinn, Kate and Bridget Cafferty, Racine, Michael, Matthew, Molly, Max and Andrew Rader, De Pere, Lois and George Lowe, Astoria NY, Richard, Emery and Rhys Evans, River Hills and Henry and Alexander Evans, Green Bay.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, George Keappock.
A visitation will be held at NEWCOMER FUNERAL HOME (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay), Friday, August 5, 2016 from 4 to 7 PM. A prayer service will follow at 7 PM. Visitation will continue at the funeral home, Saturday, August 6, 2016 from 9 to 9:45 AM. A funeral service will follow at 10 AM with Bishop Bob Morneau officiating and full military honors. A gathering of family and friends will be held after services to celebrate Rick's life.
