With faith in the Resurrection of Jesus, we offer our prayers for Reverend Father Edward S. Nowakowski who entered eternal life on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at the age of 93.
Fr. Nowakowski was born on May 18, 1923 in Chicago, IL to his parents Casimir and Antoinette (Ziemba) Nowakowski. He attended Holy Trinity High School in Chicago, and SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, MI, where he studied philosophy and theology. He was ordained a priest on May 22, 1948 at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral in Green Bay by Bishop Stanislaus V. Bona.
Father served briefly as Assistant Pastor shortly after ordination at Our Lady of Lourdes, Marinette and SS. Peter and Paul, Green Bay. He served as Assistant Pastor at St. Mary, Manitowoc from 1948 until 1960. At that time, he became Pastor of St. Stanislaus Kostka, Armstrong Creek, where he served for 44 years. In 1982, he became Pastor of St. Joan of Arc, Goodman, while continuing to serve St. Stanislaus Kostka. Father retired in 2004. As a senior priest, he resided at Grellinger Hall and the McCormick Memorial Home, Green Bay.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
Reception of the Body by the Regional Vicar, Very Reverend Richard Getchel, will take place on Thursday, February 2, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the McCormick Home Chapel, Green Bay. Visitation will continue until the time of the funeral.
The Funeral Liturgy, expressing our faith and our hope in the promised glory of the Lord's Resurrection, will take place on Thursday, February 2, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the McCormick Home Chapel, 212 Iroquois Avenue, Green Bay with Most Reverend David L. Ricken as the Celebrant, and Reverend Joseph Dorner, homilist. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, Illinois.
