Ralph Edwin Burbey died peacefully at the age of 87 on January 29, 2016 surrounded by his family after a short illness at Woodside Lutheran Home.
Ralph was born on July 7, 1928 to Emory and Florence (Fercy) Burbey. Ralph served in the Army during the Korean War prior to marrying Priscilla DeBauch on September 22, 1956. He was a devout believer in the power of education, working as an elementary school teacher in Brookside, principal at Wequiock, and finally as a Special Education Teacher for the Green Bay Public School District up until his retirement in 1992. Ralph and Priscilla had four daughters: Rita Burbey, Katherine (Kitty) Burbey-Reed/Mike Reed, Lori (Dale) Schaden and Susan Burbey. Grandchildren are: Sarah (Jim) Jabo, Danielle (Andrew) Johnson, Theresa Schaden, Lisa (Dan) Bins, Nicole Schaden, Brittany Schaden, Kristi (Nate) Gilligan, Hunter Schaden, Kaleb Schaden, Matt Landrie (fiancée Nicole Grant), and Bryan (Leah) Landrie. Great-Grandchildren are: Anjali, Alexa-Ann, Michael, Gavin, Preston, Paityn, Parker, Ava, Connor, Colton, and Wyatt. Step-grandchildren are: Amanda Reed (Sherman Fitch), Laura Reed, Christy Reed (Justin Rohe), and Tammy (Josh) Steinbrecher. Step-great grandchildren are: Brayden, Conner, Garrett, Leum, Kamden, Teagen, and Wilbur.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents Emory and Florence, and siblings Edrice, Douglas, Emory, and Dorothy. He is survived by one brother Frank (Pat) Burbey.
Ralph loved gardening, bird watching, geneology, taking care of stray animals, surfing the internet for random bits of knowledge (could tell you the origin of toilet paper), Facebook, and most important of all, spending time with family. He was blessed with the Burbey gift of gab and shared that gift with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
In accordance with Ralph's wishes, a private visitation/service will be held for his family. A Veteran's Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2016 at 2 pm prior to burial at the St. Benedict Church Cemetery in Suamico, Wisconsin.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Robert and Jean Schaden who were always there to help when needed, his neighbor Marsha Van Egeren who would stop over with homemade dessert and a cold bottled beer, and to all the staff at Woodside Lutheran Home for their wonderful compassionate care.
