Phyllis Euphrasia De Prey

March 13, 1924 — November 16, 2021

Phyllis Euphrasia De Prey passed away peacefully early the evening of November 16, 2021 at the age of 97. She was born May 13, 1924 in the town of Bellevue to the late Joseph and Euphrasia Kaster De Prey, the third of ten children. Phyllis's life began on the family farm. Around her twelfth birthday, her parents purchased De Prey's General Store in Bellevue. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in 1942 and began a long life of work and service to others. After working several jobs, Phyllis went back to the family store to help her parents and her brother Joe. Phyllis was a fixture in the store, and developed friendships with many customers. Many of the local kids knew her as the lady who kept the candy counter well stocked.

Phyllis was a person of tremendous faith who lived a life of service, providing care to her Mother, Aunt Mayme, nephew Mark Gnadt and her brother Joe. Later she made time to visit those who were sick or housebound. She was doing this well into her eighties before health issues forced her to slow down.

Phyllis was a special aunt to her many nephews and nieces. Rides in her convertible, bowling, golf, trips to sport and car shows and other activities. She made time for many of us over the years, creating a lot of special memories.

Phyllis was an excellent athlete, excelling at golf and bowling for many years and played volleyball and softball in her younger years. She also was an avid Packers fan, attending many home games (yes, including the Ice Bowl) as well as traveling at times to support her favorite team.

She also liked to travel including trips to Expo 67 (World's Fair) in Montreal in 1967 as well as Europe and Ireland.

Phyllis is survived by her siblings Bernard (Irene) De Prey, Ann De Prey, Joan Hogan, Mary Rose De Prey, Ceil De Prey and Catherine Huisman. She is further survived by her sister-in-law Nancy De Prey, special niece and nephew, Mary Eileen Whelan and Joe Gnadt as well as numerous other nephews and nieces and special friends Dorothy and Roy Lindeman. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Veronica (Alois) Gnadt, brothers Joseph and John, sister-in law Patricia De Prey, brother-in-law Jim Hogan and nephews Mark Gnadt and Matthew De Prey. Phyllis owned numerous dogs, that last being Brandy who passed several years ago and left large hole in Phyllis's heart.
