Paula M. Waggoner

October 1, 1951 — December 31, 2020

Paula Margaret Waggoner, 69, of Green Bay, Wisconsin died peacefully, at her home, with her husband by her side, on Friday, December 31st, 2020. She was born on October 1st, 1951 to Eugene and Marion (Frank) Holt in Alexandria, Virginia.

Paula was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School in Alexandria. After graduation, she attended Virginia Commonwealth University, followed by the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Design.

Paula worked for over 40 years as an Art Director and Creative Director at the headquarters of a number of department stores and retail businesses, including Woodward & Lothrop, Draper's & Damon's, Marshall Fields, Talbots, L.L. Bean, Walt Disney, Coldwater Creek, Hecht's, and Shopko.

In her retirement, Paula dearly enjoyed working as a concierge at Bellevue Retirement Community. There she met the love of her life, Mark Waggoner, and a COVID romance blossomed into marriage on October 17th, 2020 at Grace Lutheran Church in Green Bay, the happiest day of her life. Less than seven weeks later, we were shocked when Paula was diagnosed with stage four cancer. Sadly, she passed away a short time later.

Paula always went above and beyond at work, and was dearly loved by all whose lives she touched with her thoughtfulness and compassion. "Remember to treat everyone with kindness, because you never know when your last day will be," she recently said. So true.

Paula is survived by her loving husband, Mark, her much loved in-laws, John and Karen Waggoner, step-son Adam Waggoner, his fiancée, Maria Altepeter, and Paula's sweet mini rex bunny, Nigel. Paula will be missed dearly by her forever friends, Joy and Rebecca. A brother and two nephews also survive. Paula was preceded in death by both her parents.

The family would like to thank the kind and compassionate caregivers with Unity Hospice who helped to keep Paula comfortable, and pain free during this difficult time. Also, deep gratitude to the staff and residents at Bellevue Retirement Community, whose love and support meant the world to Paula.

A private family gathering and a celebration of Paula's life will occur at Bellevue Retirement Community in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paula's memory to the Appendix Cancer PMP Research Foundation at acpmp.org/donate. 2021 L. Street NW, Suite 101-244, Washington, DC 20036.
