Paul Vincent Bartlett, 73 passed away on March 16, 2022. Paul was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on July 26, 1948, and was the son of John and Beatrice (Erickson) Bartlett. Paul was a graduate of West Green Bay High School and went on to earn a B.A. in Geography from UW-Oshkosh and a Master's degree in Urban and Regional Geography from St. Louis University.
Paul came by his love of the natural world as a boy, riding his bike to the Eagles Nest to collect fossils and stones with his brother David, picking strawberries and cherries on his uncle's farms in Door County, taking his beloved daughter, Heather, fishing in the mountain streams of Colorado and Wisconsin lakes, or walking along the shore of Lake Michigan in search of stones to polish. He was a spiritual man and nature was his religion.
Paul's interest in geography lent to his sense of adventure, which he shared with his wife, Linda. Traveling companions throughout their 52 years together, they shared a passion for travel that included trips throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Central America. He especially cherished the vacations taken with his 3 grandchildren and a very special family vacation in Italy to celebrate his 60th birthday.
While Paul loved to travel and lived throughout the United States during his working years, in retirement he chose to return to his childhood home of Green Bay. This decision to return to his roots was one he never regretted as he came to cherish the many new friends he made in the nine years since he returned to Green Bay.
Paul was a gifted writer, publishing a few short stories, and, as a lifelong progressive, was proud to have had many letters to the editor published by newspapers all over the country, including the New York Times.
Paul wrote the following before his death, "I am aware that a revolving door of species has come and gone for over a billion years. In the present, my claim to habitat carries no greater moral weight than the critters that claim the sky, seas, or land." From the many bird feeders in his backyard to his love for his canine companions, especially his favorite rescue Scottish Terrier, Fiona, Paul lived by the words he wrote.
We will greatly miss his wonderful sense of humor, his quirky personality, and most of all, his deep and abiding love for his family.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents and his brother David Bartlett.
Paul is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Blackburn Bartlett, daughter, Heather (Eric) Bartlett Schley, grandchildren, Alec (Taylor Ellis), Hannah (Jacob Klippel), and Maeghan Schley, brother Derald (Lynn) Chartier, nieces; Diane Chartier Gurr and nephews, Bruce and Douglas Chartier, brother-in-law William Blackburn, and sister-in-law Weihong Sun.
