Patrick Farrell, age 88, passed away peacefully, August 15, 2016 at a local nursing home while under the care of Unity Hospice.
Pat was born March 31, 1928 in Green Bay, the son of the late Thomas and Lulu Farrell.
Pat attended Central Catholic High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army after high school, serving his country as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division in Northern Japan. He attended St. Norbert College, earning his B.S. in 1953 and then earning his M.S. from UW-Madison in 1959. Pat was a high school Biology teacher in Green Bay for many years, first at Premontre and then Preble High.
He married Marian Johnson, September 2, 1948 at St. John Catholic Church.
With a life-long interest in conservation, he taught Hunter Safety, taught at Trees for Tomorrow and belonged to the Izaak Walton League. He loved to hunt (especially with his brothers) and fish (especially with his grandson, Mike and nephew, Bill Johnson.) He planted many pine trees in his life, too many, as those of us who knew him well always laughed about.
Pat is survived by his loving family; his wife of 67 years, Marian Farrell; daughter, Julie (Steve) Bertrand; grandchildren, Mike (Laurie) Bertrand and Amy (Ryan) Reszel of Madison and his great-grandchildren, Autumn and Megan Bertrand. He is further survived by his brothers: John (Elaine), Mike (the late Jane), Jeremiah (Jean) and Gary (Shirley) Farrell; much loved nieces, nephews, friends and many great neighbors.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Tom (Jean); sister, Dorothy (Joe) Obecunas; infant brother, James; his father and mother-in-law, Constant and Fannie Johnson and brothers-in-law: Wallace, Constant, Jr., Milton and Bob (Berty) Johnson.
According to Pat's wishes, a private service will be held.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Marla Vista for all their help and for taking such good care of Pat for the last 3 years. Also, special thanks to Unity Hospice for their care and compassion.
