Patricia B. (Smick) Beck, 87, De Pere, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, March 12, 2013. She was born April 24, 1925 in Oshkosh to the late James and Barbara (Schmitz) Smick. Patricia married Kenneth Beck on October 26, 1946 in Oshkosh. They had two children and celebrated 43 years together before Ken's passing on December 20 1989. Patricia taught 5th and 6th grade in the Green Bay School System for over 30 years until her retirement in 1989. After her retirement she enjoyed tutoring children at area schools.
Music was very important to Patricia. She played the organ and her children especially enjoyed listening to her play the violin along with the Lawrence Welk show. She also sang in multiple church choirs.
Patricia loved traveling, was an avid bridge player and belonged to many bridge groups. She was also a member of the Sweet Adelines, the Red Hat Society, and a Book Discussion Group. Patricia was a Skylight Player and on the De Pere Zoning Board for many years. She was well known for her colorful attire and was active at the Senior Center. Patricia volunteered at the N.E.W. Zoo and for area hospitals where she knit newborn hats and lap blankets.
Survivors include her two children, Daniel (Colleen) Beck and Catherine (Michael) Dudek; grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Schultz, Matthew (Miriah) Beck, Brian Dudek, David (Sarah) Dudek, and Julie (Jonas) Trochinski; great-grandchildren, Kyla and Owen Schultz, Joah Beck, and Audrina and Evan Dudek; step-great-grandson, Konnar Trochinski; sister, Barbara Knobloch; brothers, James (Catherine), Robert (Marge), and George (Rita) Smick; and sister-in-law, Beatrice Beck.
Visitation for family and friends will be Friday, March 15, 2013 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, 1307 Lourdes Ave., De Pere, from 9:00am until 10:45am. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Friday at 11:00am with Rev. Timothy Shillcox O.Praem. officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Patricia's memory for the Senior Center.
