Orville "Orv" A. Zich, 80, of Athelstane, WI passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 21, 2020 in Crivitz, WI. He was born on December 31, 1939 to the late Alfred and Lydia (Borchardt) Zich.
Orv graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1958. Following high school, Orv continued his education for two years through college. Orv married the love of his life, Janet Johnson on July 28, 1961 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Together they raised three children together in the Green Bay Area.
He was a Maintenance Engineer for over 35 years for the Ashwaubenon School District where he was employed by Cormier Elementary School and Parkview Middle School. He was also a volunteer firefighter for the Village of Ashwaubenon for many years.
Orv enjoyed woodworking, carpentry and anything he was able to do with his hands. He was an all-around handyman. Other hobbies that Orv enjoyed were bowling and golfing where he played on many leagues. He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan; always cheering on the Packers, Brewers and the Badgers. After retirement, Orv and his wife moved to Athelstane. They spent a lot of time doing outdoor adventures along the Peshtigo River and "Up North activities" in general. He loved vacationing with his wife. They traveled to Mexico and Florida for many years.
Orv is survived by his wife of 59 years, Janet Zich; his two children: Wendy (Keith Hornbeck) Petrie and Tamara (Gene) Bishop; three grandchildren: James, Christine and Lisa; one great-grandson Kellen, his sister Karen Olsen along with many nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, Orv is preceded in death by his daughter Cheri Jo Zich.
Visitation for Orv will be held on Monday, October 26, 2020 at Newcomer- Green Bay Chapel (340 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, WI 54301) from 3:00 PM - 5:00 PM. A private Prayer Service will be held for the family. Burial for Orv will be in Fort Howard Memorial Gardens in Green Bay, WI.
