Nancy (Gochnauer) Stiles, 92, of Green Bay, beloved wife of the late Stuart L. Stiles, departed this life on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at Autumn's Promise surrounded by her family.
Nancy was born on September 22, 1923 in Green Bay daughter of the late Harry and Florence (Plantz) Gochnauer. Throughout her life she spent summers at Shore Acres at a family cottage. Nancy grew up in Green Bay, graduating from Green Bay East High School, and received her BA degree in Theater from Northwestern University. She married Stuart in 1945, and they settled in Milwaukee and later Elm Grove where they lived for over 30 years raising their family. Nancy continued her love of theater by performing in numerous plays at the Sunset Playhouse in Elm Grove. She starred as a beautiful leading lady in over 20 plays and was an active member of their Board of Directors. In the late 70s they moved to Green Bay where Nancy became involved in many community activities including: P.E.O. Chapter AI, Board of Directors Bellin College of Nursing, Salvation Army Women's Auxillary, Weidner Center Board of Directors; Seat Donor Chairperson, and Playgirls. Nancy and Stuart enjoyed their world travels together. Nancy loved spending time in Dunedin, Florida with her parents, and eventually her own family.
Nancy's memory lives on with her children: Stephen (Lorry) Stiles, Wendy (John) Hauser, and Darcy (Robert) Otjen. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren: Christopher (Julie) Stiles, Kory (Lisa) Hauser, Spencer (Carolyn) Stiles, Kelly (Brent) Daufeldt, Jeffrey (Miranda) Otjen, Robin (Ben) Costello, and Devon (Ashley) Hauser in addition to 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Nancy is preceded in death by a brother, Wallis (Janet) Gochnauer.
Nancy's family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 26th from 9:30 AM - 10:45 AM at the 1st United Methodist Church, 501 Howe Street, Green Bay. A memorial service will follow in the church at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private in Woodlawn Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Bellin College of Nursing, Unity Hospice, and Weidner Center for the Performing Arts. The family of Nancy wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to her in-home caregivers, the staff of Autumn's Promise, and Unity Hospice for their love, their care, and treating her with such dignity throughout her journey.
