Myron R. Tursky, 93, of Green Bay, beloved husband of 70 years to Millicent (Davis) Tursky, departed this life on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Myron was born on November 23, 1922 in Green Bay, WI, son of the late Walter and Mamie Tursky. He attended Green Bay East High School. In his younger years he loved attending Green Bay Packers games at City Stadium even carrying Johnny Blood's helmet for him. After high school he enlisted in the U. S. Navy during World War II serving in both theaters of war. While in the Navy he served aboard the Aircraft Carrier Bellawood and the Boxer. After the war he married Millicent on May 25, 1946 in Green Bay. They moved to Sturgeon Bay and he worked for the Door County Advocate and later lived in Chippewa Falls where he worked for the Herald Telegram. He and Millicent moved back to Green Bay where he worked for 21 years at the Press Gazette and later retired from the Green Bay Board of Education in 1986. During his career he served as a Past President of the Green Bay Typographical Union #344. In his spare time he enjoyed square dancing and was a past officer of the Whirl-Away Square Dancing Club. Throughout his life he enjoyed many activities including, softball, horseshoes, racquetball, bowling, and baseball. Myron enjoyed camping and being outdoors. He loved spending time at their cottage at Jaco Lake fishing and spending time with family. He was an avid gardener, loved raising both beagles and pigeons. A few of the many legacies that he leaves is that of an amazing popcorn and potato pancake chef.
Myron leaves his wife of 70 years Millicent, and their children: Georgean (Gary) Simon and their children, Stacy (Dana) Stecker and Todd (Rachel) Simon. Sharon (James) Martin and their children: Shannon Larsen, and Denise (Jon) Humphrey. Chris (Debra) Tursky and their children: Bradley (Danielle) Tursky and Tyler Tursky, in addition to 10 great grandchildren along with several nieces and nephews. Myron is preceded in death by one brother and three sisters.
Visitation will be held on Friday, September 9th from 10-11:45 AM at the First United Methodist Church, 501 Howe Street, Green Bay. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 PM in the Church with a luncheon to follow at the Church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The Newcomer Funeral Home of Green Bay has been entrusted with arrangements. Myron's family wishes to express their deep gratitude to the wonderful staff of Unity Hospice and Age Well Assisted Living for the comfort and care given throughout his illness.
