Mike Martell Sr.
Michael Lee Martell Sr, 67, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 28, 2022 surrounded by those he loved most.
Mike was born April 14, 1955 in Manitowoc to the late Larry and Janet (Szymczyk) Martell. Before graduating from high school,he joined the U.S. Navy. After his time in the Navy was up, he returned to Manitowoc and began his career as an Auto Body Technician at Thor Auto Body. He took pride in his work, bringing many vehicles back to life, and looking better than ever. When his time in the body shop came to an end, he became the Manager at the Two Rivers Super Wash, where he spent 20+ years helping people to maintain that new car shine. In his retirement, he worked at Dirty Paws in Two Rivers as a Doggie Daycare Attendant. He became lovingly known as "Grandpa Mike". He loved spending his days with the dogs, watching them play, and even catching a nap or two with them.
Mike spent as much time out on the water as possible. Whether it was fishing the local Salmon Derby with his kids and grandkids, or up north in his favorite place, Eagle River, not a day went by that he didn't think about fishing. You could often find him in the Captain's Chair of The Green Crawler while still docked.
When confined to land, he occupied himself for many decades with various pool leagues in the Manitowoc/Two Rivers area. He loved the game, made many friends over the felt, and passed his love of the game on to both of his kids. They loved playing league along side their Old Man when given the chance.
Mike is survived by his children, Michael Jr. and Jessica; both of Manitowoc, his grandchildren Fionna and Graham Martell, whom he absolutely adored; his better half, Marilyn Hoffman of Two Rivers; as well as Marilyn's family in Green Bay. He is also survived by dear friends Sue and Fran Kornely, of Manitowoc.
He is further survived by brothers Greg (Marilyn), Guy, Tom (Kim), and Todd, as well as many other friends and family whose lives he touched in his time on earth.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Janet and Larry Sr.; one brother Larry Jr.; one sister Gay Lynn; one sister-in-law Mary Lynn; and many other family and friends.
His family would like to thank the Two Rivers Fire and Police Departments, the ER and ICU staff at Aurora Baycare for the care and compassion given to him during his final days. As well as everyone who sent prayers and well-wishes during this most difficult time.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at AMVETS Post 99 4310 Conroe St, Manitowoc WI from 2 pm - 6 pm.
