Michael J. "Mike" Laamanen, 56, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2013, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Mike was born April 4, 1957, in Wakefield, MI, to Margaret Marshalek and Floyd Laamanen.
He grew up in Bessemer, MI, and later moved to Green Bay in 1971. He graduated from East High in 1975 where he played ice hockey. Mike was an avid Packer fan and also a NASCAR fan. He also liked to read and make people laugh with his dry sense of humor. He loved his family.
Mike is survived by his mother, Margaret Marshalek and his father, Floyd (Mina) Laamanen, Florida; his sisters, Laura (Randy) Thyes, Susan Laamanen ( Sarah Summ), Julie (Dr. Nollie) Swynnerton, San Antonio, TX; nieces, nephews and cousins survive as well as an uncle, Jim Marshalek, Bessemer, MI.
He is preceded in death by grandparents, Nina & Peter Marshalek and Ann & Werner Laamanen.
Private services will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home with final resting at Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer, MI.
