Melvin A. Olson, 94, of Green Bay, beloved husband of Lois (Walton) Olson, and the late Arloene (Forsberg) Olson, went home to be with his Savior on Monday, November 14, 2016 surrounded by his family.
Mel was born on November 30, 1921 in St. Paul, MN. He was a graduate of Johnson High School. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor he enlisted in the United State Marine Corps serving during World War II in the South Pacific. Most of Mel's life he was a grocer, owning and operating Mel's IGA in Peshtigo as well as being employed by other grocery stores. Mel's faith and his family were the most important part of his life. He was a founding member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was an avid Green Bay Packer fan. He will be remembered as a strong man, a faithful man entertaining his children and grandchildren with songs, and being an example of faith and love for his beloved family and everyone he touched.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 40 years Lois and his children: Tom (Lynn) Olson, Judi (Ray) Kopish, Jeff (Vicky) Olson, Danny (Regina) Olson, Patti (Todd) Hinze, Wayne Olson, and David (Carolyn) Olson. Mel also leaves two step-children: Cynthia Walton and Jeffrey D. Olson along with 19 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his sons: Jack and Kenny Olson and his siblings: Marion Anderson, Alice Lundquist and Gordon Olson.
Visitation will held on Saturday, November 19th from 10 AM - 11 AM at Bethel Baptist Church, 1601 Libal Street, Green Bay. A funeral service will follow at 11 AM in the Church. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Peshtigo.
