Melvin P. Laakso, 82, of Green Bay, beloved husband of Gail (Jashinsky) Laakso, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Manor Care West surrounded by his family.
Melvin was born on January 26, 1934 in Diorite, MI, son of the late Gust and Eleanor (Johnson) Laakso. He enlisted in the U.S. Army just after the Korean Conflict. He was a roofer most of his life working for several companies in Milwaukee and later Green Bay. Melvin loved sports and was an avid Green Bay Packers, Brewers, and Badgers fan. He enjoyed playing baseball, horseshoes, reading, and watching westerns in his spare time.
His memory will live on with his wife, Gail and their eight children: Kim Laakso, Carrie (Michael) McCoy, Craig (Julie) Laakso, Michael (Jolene) Laakso, Kirk (Mia) Laakso, Darron Laakso, Jennifer (Todd) Nauert, Natasha Laakso. Melvin also leaves two sisters, Elsie Isotalo and Pearl Anderson along with seven grandchildren: Angela, Ashley, Lyndsay, Caleb, Chloe, Major, and Kenzie, and a great granddaughter, Sophie.
He is preceded in death by his brothers: Arne and Robert Laakso, his sister Liala Leisner and a half brother, Arvo Laakso.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 28th from 10 AM - 11:45 AM at Living Hope Church in Green Bay. A funeral service will follow visitation at 12:00 PM in the Church. The Newcomer Funeral Home of Green Bay has been entrusted with arrangements. Interment will be private in the First Baptist Cemetery in Pound, WI. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks for the wonderful care given to Melvin by Dr. David Groteluschen and staff.
