Martin J. "Marty" Kalinosky died at a local nursing home on Thursday, January 2, 2014. He was born on February 23, 1918. Marty was the oldest of nine children born to Martin C. and Ann T. (Stinn) Kalinosky. He was a lifelong resident of Green Bay and a loyal Packer fan.
Marty attended Cathedral Grade School for eight years and graduated from Green Bay East High School in 1936, after which he attended St. Norbert College. In 1941, he was drafted into the Army for the duration of WWII. He was stationed at Chanute Field, an Army Air Force Base, until 1945 when he was sent to the Philippines in preparation for the planned invasion of Japan. He accompanied the occupying troops into Tokyo after the armistice.
Survivors include 2 brothers, Norbert (Thelma) of Green Bay and John of New Orleans; a sister, Betty Kay of Green Bay; and sisters-in-law, Doris and Alice.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Ray, Ed, and Bob; and 2 sisters, Rita Kay and Eleanor La Force.
For the past ten years while living at the nursing home, Marty often provided entertainment for the residents and employees with his piano and keyboard skills. He was an accomplished, self-taught player who could often reproduce a piece, note for note, after hearing it only once and delighted his audiences with swing and jazz music from the Big Band era as well as popular South American rhythms. In earlier years, while living at Port Plaza Towers, he enjoyed playing their Steinway on a daily basis. Marty was somewhat reclusive, but his family and friends knew him to be a generous and morally upright man who walked quietly through life.
Family and friends may call Thursday, January 9, 2014, at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral, 140 S. Monroe Ave., Green Bay, from 9:30am until 11:00am. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at the Cathedral on Thursday at 11:00am with Father Jim Feely officiating.
Marty's family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Manor Care East Nursing Home.
